1. What Cookies Are

Cookies are small pieces of text that a website can ask a browser to save and return during subsequent requests. Browsers also support other storage technologies, including localStorage, which can keep a preference in the browser without transmitting the stored value with every page request. These tools can support site functions, remember choices, or, on other websites, help measure activity.

Everyday Harvest uses a limited combination of essential PHP session functionality and browser preference storage. Our cookie banner offers three choices because visitors should be able to express a preference clearly. The selection itself does not activate advertising tools or optional analytics on this implementation.

2. How Everyday Harvest Uses Cookies

The website needs a short-lived session mechanism to issue form security tokens, retain temporary validation information after a failed standard submission, and limit repeated automated requests. Those tasks support the functionality of the homepage and contact forms. The session is not used to construct an advertising profile or follow visitors between unrelated websites.

When you choose Accept All, Partial, or Functional on the cookie banner or in the preference dialog, the browser stores the selected level. This allows the banner to stay dismissed when you navigate to other pages or return later using the same browser storage. The selected preference is not evidence that other optional tracking technologies are installed.

3. Essential PHP Session Cookie

The session cookie is named EATSMARTSESSID. It provides a temporary session identifier that the server can associate with form security tokens and basic anti-abuse information. It is set with an HTTP-only attribute and SameSite=Lax. When the website is served over HTTPS, the session configuration also marks the cookie Secure. Its expiry follows the PHP session and browser configuration of the deployed hosting environment.

Without this session functionality, the form cannot reliably check whether a submitted security token belongs to the browser that opened the form. For this reason, the essential cookie is not controlled by the optional consent tiers. It may be created when the page is requested even before a banner choice has been made.

4. Cookie Preference Storage

The cookie choice is normally saved under the browser localStorage key site_cookie_consent. It records the selected level and the time of the choice. If localStorage is unavailable, the interface attempts to save a first-party fallback cookie using the same name with a functional value and an approximate one-year lifetime. The banner is hidden when a stored local preference exists.

Your available options are Accept All, Partial, and Functional. Functional records a preference for essential functionality alone; Partial and Accept All record broader consent levels for potential optional features. Because this website currently has no optional analytics or advertising scripts, selecting one of the broader levels does not cause additional tracking code to load.

5. Analytics and Optional Cookies

Everyday Harvest does not ship an advertising tag, retargeting script, or analytics tracker as part of this site. Accordingly, there is no optional analytics cookie to list or activate at present. Ordinary server logs may still be produced by the hosting environment as part of handling HTTP requests; those logs are technically different from browser-based marketing cookies.

If analytics, embedded media, measurement tools, or other nonessential technologies are introduced in the future, they should be documented here before activation. Any consent mechanism must then be connected to the actual loading logic so that optional technologies are withheld until a valid choice has been made where required.

6. External Resources and Browser Requests

The website uses Google Fonts to load its heading and body typefaces and a content delivery network to load Tailwind CSS. Requests for those files are made by the visitor’s browser, and the providers may receive standard connection information necessary to deliver the files. Such requests are not the same as Everyday Harvest creating an analytics profile of the visitor.

The website’s five food photographs are stored locally in the images directory and are not retrieved from external photography services at runtime. Changes to fonts, code delivery, or embedded services can introduce different technical storage behavior and will require a corresponding policy update.

7. Managing Cookie Preferences

You can make a selection when the banner first appears. Every button dismisses the banner and saves the selected level. To review or change that choice later, use the Cookie preferences control in the website footer; the same three options appear in a dialog. Choosing a new level replaces the previous local preference and closes the dialog.

If you clear your browser’s local storage and cookies, the banner may appear again on your next visit. Preferences are browser-specific, so a choice on one device generally does not transfer to another. If you use privacy tools that prevent browser storage, your choice may not persist beyond the current visit.

8. Browser Cookie Controls

Most modern browsers offer controls to view, remove, or restrict cookies and locally stored website data. Those controls can usually be found in privacy, security, or site-data settings. The exact menu names vary by browser and device. Private browsing modes may clear stored data automatically at the end of the session.

Blocking all cookies can interfere with the CSRF and session checks that help the consultation form operate. If the form does not submit after cookies are disabled, you can review your browser settings or use the published email address to contact the site. Removing localStorage will normally reset the visible cookie preference selection.

9. Retention and Technical Changes

The fallback preference cookie uses a one-year maximum age. The normal localStorage preference does not have an automatic expiration applied by this website; it remains until removed by the browser, cleared by the visitor, or overwritten through the preference interface. The PHP session lasts according to the server configuration and browser session behavior, which may vary between hosting environments.

If a future website change adds new cookie categories, alters the way choices are honored, or changes the technical storage keys, this document and the user-facing interface should be revised together. A previously stored broad preference should not be used as a substitute for reviewing changed purposes and consent requirements.
